Jennifer is an artist, dreamer, thinker and observer whose creative inspiration springs from deep connections to the past, the poetry of day-to-day life, and the challenge of being a parent to nine highly individual children. Jen’s family was built through adoption; four of her children were adopted at older ages, three of them from Ethiopia. With that has come an incredible education of perseverance, loss, trauma, and resilience.

Jen’s studio is in the home that her parents built and through their influence, she has been connected to Rappahannock for over 40 years.

With important ties to Virginia and Utah, she often goes between those two places in order to hone her painting skills. Jen loves being able to work side-by-side with her wonderfully creative mother, Polly Scoville.

Jennifer will be joined on the Tour by guest artists Polly Scoville and Christopher Timothy.

For many years, Polly expressed herself artistically through making quilts. Recently, she took a drawing class with a friend. Polly started drawing birds, her favorite subject, and continues to do so! She sends her family and friends hand made cards for special occasions, and decided to print her own set of art cards for the Fall Art Tour!

Christopher Timothy is a geographer who photographs landscapes, the two being the same practice for him. He studied geography at James Madison University and works as a riparian buffer technician on Rappahannock and Culpeper streams, which means most of his images are made while already on the land; learning how it holds water, fire, and time. His work runs from night skies over the Colorado Plateau to the Blue Ridge foothills outside his window, often from the ground and sometimes from the air as a drone pilot. Framed and unframed prints will be available on the Tour.

The photograph featured here was made under a moonless sky in Arches National Park, a single frame at the edge of what a camera can still gather.
