The abstract landscapes of Ruthie Windsor-Mann cap The abstract landscapes of Ruthie Windsor-Mann capture the spirit and atmosphere of Rappahannock County and her other subjects in a beautifully expressive way.

Ruthie distills the landscape into color, movement, and texture. The result is work that evokes rolling hills, open skies, shifting light, and the emotional feeling of being in the landscape rather than a literal depiction of it.

During the Fall Art Tour, visiting her studio offers a chance to experience her interpretations up close and see how the beauty of Rappahannock and other landscapes comes alive through her unique artistic lens.

See more of Ruthie's work on our website at www.fallarttour.org, and on this year's Tour! We look forward to welcoming you to Rappahannock County for the 21st annual Fall Art Tour, November 7-8, 2026!

The Fall Art Tour of the Artists of Rappahannock i The Fall Art Tour of the Artists of Rappahannock is an extraordinary opportunity to step inside artist studios, connect with artists personally, and experience the stories and inspiration behind their work.

One of the Tour’s memorable stops in recent years was the gallery and studio of Charles Thompkins. Charlie joined the Tour again a few years ago after an extended hiatus, and shared his mesmerizing traditional black and white photography alongside his remarkable collection of 1970s and 80s Jug Town earthenware pottery.

We were deeply saddened to learn of Charles’ recent passing. All of us at the Fall Art Tour extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him. Charles brought warmth, curiosity, artistry, and a truly unique spirit to the Tour, and he will be greatly missed. Charlie played a key role in establishing RAAC, and took on early leadership roles to build on RAAC’s success. We will be forever grateful to him for his essential leadership and support of RAAC and the Fall Art Tour.

This is what makes the Tour so special. It is not only about viewing beautiful artwork. It is about meeting the people behind it, standing in the spaces where the work is created, and sharing in the daily rhythm of an artist’s life. Those moments of connection stay with you long after the Tour ends.

If you visited Charles’ studio in 2025, you know how meaningful that experience was. And if you missed it, his presence reminds us why supporting and visiting artists matters so deeply.
"Line as I See It" Linda Croxson gives a repeat o "Line as I See It"

Linda Croxson gives a repeat of a talk she gave at the popular Soup & Soul series sponsored by RAAC at the Rappahannock County Library on Thursday, June 4 at 4:00 pm.

Linda, an abstract painter working primarily in oils, will share a very “personal history of art” as reflected in the use of line throughout human history, from the cave paintings made 30,000 years ago to the Greeks, the Renaissance artists and to our own contemporaries. Linda describes line as “the intentional creation of a record of a human movement,” and she will illustrate different approaches to line-making throughout history, what it has meant to her and how it has contributed to the evolution of her own work.
