Charlie Jones is one of three featured artists at Charlie Jones is one of three featured artists at Gay Street Gallery for this year's Fall Art Tour. He is a self-taught abstract painter whose work has been shaped by more than 25 years of exploration in mixed media and decades of global travel. From the quiet reverence of temples in Cambodia and Vietnam to the vivid energy of Bangkok and Hong Kong, his journeys taught him to see color as atmosphere and space as balance and tension.

Charlie’s process is both physical and meditative—layering, removing, scratching, and reapplying pigments until the surface begins to speak back. Much like the worn stone steps and weathered doors he encountered abroad, his paintings evolve through time, patience, and repetition.

Rather than capturing a single place, Charlie seeks to convey movement, energy, and cultural texture—moments that linger long after the journey. His bold colors and layered surfaces invite viewers into a contemplative space, revealing something new with each return.

Rappahannock County artist Tim Carrington’s work Rappahannock County artist Tim Carrington’s work is shaped by his parallel involvement in journalism and painting. His paintings, whether landscapes or figure paintings, blend dream-world and real-world elements, emphasizing a sense of story and mood. A number of recent paintings are part of a “Babel Tower” series. These emphasize cultural collisions, migrations, and wandering exploration. The sense of mayhem and split-off energies in these paintings is offset by the allure of the foreign or the truly new.

Tim will be joined in his studio this year by Luke Christopher, a “Best of D.C.” photographer and two-time winner “Best in Show” for the Virginia Press Association photo essay award. He started his career as a writer at the University of Maryland’s Diamondback. With a passion for telling visual stories via photo and video, he interned at National Geographic Television and worked as a video editor at Discovery Channel.

Join us for this year's Fall Art Tour, November 1-2, 2025! It's the most amazing art weekend in Virginia! Escape the city and breathe deep in beautiful Rappahannock County, VA - a hidden gem just a short drive away, but a world apart. With rolling hills, panoramic mountain views, and the crisp clarity of fall air, it’s the perfect place to slow down and savor the season.
