The Fall Art Tour weekend, brought to you by the Rappahannock Association for Arts and Community (RAAC), has become one of the distinctive signs of autumn in the County, and a premier art event in Virginia drawing visitors from the entire DC Metropolitan Area and beyond! Along with the glowing light and leaf colors and the crisp mountain air of beautiful Rappahannock County, comes this extraordinary free community arts celebration.

Mark your calendars for November 2 and 3, 2024, because you won’t want to miss this traditional event – full of surprises and new delights every year.

The Tour’s Main Gallery will return again to The Washington School, 567 Mount Salem Avenue, Washington, VA. This dazzling display features representative works from all the studios and galleries, allowing you to identify your favorites and plan your own self-guided tour. With free admission, however, the Main Gallery is no longer the required starting point for the Tour. You may also peruse the artist and gallery pages on this website for previews of what you’ll find at each location, and find information and a map (published approximately one week prior to the Tour – subscribe to our newsletter to get the map directly in your inbox!) to help plan your visit in advance.

The event has grown in size and reputation over the years. For the first time, the Fall Art Tour is featured in Cooperative Living (October issue)– a publication of the Virginia, Maryland, and Delaware Association of Electric Cooperatives — providing even wider regional recognition of the Tour artists and the weekend celebration. County and nearby residents have the privilege and pleasure of a front row seat each and every year.

Local artists have been hard at work creating new works in a wide range of genres to ensure a multitude of pieces and satisfying experiences for every Tour-goer. Our county school participants, whose creative displays at The Washington School are always much admired by visitors from near and far, have started working on their contributions as well. These students and their guiding teachers enhance the community nature of the Tour, which thrives on the combined energies of the talented artists, generous RAAC donors, welcoming local businesses and residents, and enthusiastic visitors.

Each year, the unique experiences of RAAC’s Fall Art Tour are as different as the art works on display. This year, there are 33 studios and galleries featuring the works of more than 80 artists. You will see a wide range of fine art including paintings in all genres and mediums, furniture, drawings and engravings, sculpture, ceramics, mosaics, photography, woodworking, jewelry, bookbinding, stained glass and other glasswork, and fiber art. Talking with the artists and learning about their creative process and technique adds another special dimension to the visual excitement of the event.
