Martin Woodard
My Studio and Gallery is located in a delightful old storefront on Main Street, Sperryville. From the front porch and twin bay windows I can watch the comings and goings of local folks, business people and tourists. This is a refreshing change of pace from the solitary hiking and biking throughout the Blue Ridge Mountains that I greatly enjoy.
I always have a camera with me on early morning rides or late afternoon hikes. Images from my farm and the surrounding countryside are inspirations for my work. Back in the studio, I try to understand how to capture light, composition and emotions on the canvas. I am a deliberate painter and often revisit a painting multiple time before considering it complete. I like to think I interpret the landscape by adding my own sense of place and understanding of the land.
Martin Woodard participated in the August Virtual Art Exhibitions. Click here to see more of his work and here to watch the recording of the live Meet-the-Artist event.
