WHAT’S HAPPENING IN FEBRUARY WITH FALL ART TOUR VENUES AND ARTISTS!
Here we are in the often dreary, colorless days of February, when we’re all ready for Spring and it’s still too far off. Come out and enjoy all the warmth and color of our galleries, and our bucolic towns. It’s a great month to visit, enjoy fine art and local crafts, and perhaps a hot drink, lunch or dinner at one of our many locally-owned restaurants. Make a weekend of it with a multitude of lodging options! Here’s what’s coming up:

RON PARAS
A new collection by Ron Paras
When I studied with legendary master photographer Harry Callahan at Rhode Island School of Design, one of his assignments was to “go out and play in the light.” “In what way?” I asked. “Any way you choose, Ron.” I chose to experiment with time exposures using a flashlight to illuminate nude figures which forced me to concentrate more on light than composition. In many ways that assignment shifted the way I see. I remain fascinated with how different sources and qualities of light transform a subject.
My latest project, “Unexpected Light” (currently in progress) is an expansion of Harry’s original assignment. The series is made up of images that explore how light defines form, creating drama and emotion.
The images focus on unexpected light within landscapes from a variety of sources such as lanterns, laser, security lights, speed lights, sunlight filtered through winter fog, moonlight,

PATRICIA BRENNAN
“I was interested in learning how to make something that I could make a living from,” says Brennan, who was in Colorado at the time, but now lives with her husband Don Mullan outside of Sperryville, Va. “I tried pottery, macrame, and other things. Then I saw an article in Mother Earth News on how to do stained-glass windows. That was the spark.” The series is made up of images that explore how light defines form, creating drama and emotion.
Local artist Patricia Brennan graces the cover of this month’s Rappahannock Electric Cooperative Living magazine. Read this in depth article about her and her work, Reflections of Light and Color, here.
